Rachel Shenton joins the cast of "The Strangers Trilogy"

The cast of The Strangers 3 is growing, with the addition of Rachel Shenton recently announced by The Hollywood Reporter. The Academy-Award winner and ‘All Creatures Great and Small’ star plays the sister to lead Madelaine Petsch’s character, Maya, in the film trilogy reboot.

Production has recently wrapped but that hasn’t stopped new cast being announced. Academy Award Winner Rachel Shenton is the newest addition to the cast of the film which was produced in Bratislava.

The new trilogy focuses on a couple, Maya and Ryan (Madelaine Petsch and Froy Gutierrez) who drive cross-country to begin a new life in the Pacific Northwest. When their car breaks down in Venus, Oregon, they’re forced to spend the night in a secluded Airbnb, where they are terrorised from dusk till dawn by three masked Strangers. Shenton is tipped to play Debbie, sister to Maya. Not much else is known about her role.

The trilogy is set to be a reboot of the original film from 2008 which followed Liv Tyler and Scott Speedman who return home to Speedman’s characters summer home after a wedding where there is a knock on the door, opening to a night of terror.

Shenton, who was born in England, is well-known for her role as Mitzeee Miniver in the British soap-opera, Hollyoaks, a role she was in for three years. She later joined the cast of the ABC Family/Freeform drama, Switched at Birth. She later appeared in a film called The Silent Child, a film she created and co-produced with her husband, Chris Overton. In 2017, she won an Academy Award for Best Live Action Short Film.

The trilogy was directed by Renny Harlin across two months in Bratislava, Slovakia, and is executive produced by Andrei Boncea, Dorothy Canton and Roy Lee. There is no release date set yet.
