Venus, Oregon – A community tucked between foggy pine trees & winding back roads. This town is home to Carol’s Diner, corrupt police, and three Strangers who love killing outsiders.

The website, VisitVenusOregon.com, is a brilliant marketing tool on part of Lionsgate. Back in the 1990s and early 2000s, movies like The Blair Witch Project and Scream 3 shattered marketing conventions by leveraging a groundbreaking website to blur the lines between fiction and reality. And it seems Lionsgate has taken a page out of their playbooks by creating an in-universe site for the town of Venus. A place for fans to see the interactions between the townsfolk and read up on old news and police cases (if you can find them).
When you first arrive at the site, you’re greeted with the four latest news articles for the town of Venus. Most notably, a post outlining the capture of the Strangers on a security camera around town. The article is littered with comments from townsfolk brushing it off as a Halloween prank. The next post outlines dangerous animal activity in the area with the Venus Police warning residents to remain vigilant. The next post talks about the five hidden gems of Venus: Larry & Lucy’s, Carol’s Diner, the Gressis House, the Pine Creek Trail, and the Mirror Lake. The final post welcomes you to Venus, and if you pay attention to the comments, you might find a hidden clue.
Make sure you sign up for the site to unlock some hidden features and book your stay at the Gressis house, once it’s re-opened that is.
Next up you’ll find a page on the history of Venus, including how well aware they are of the various tragedies that have struck their town and that they are not too privy to outsiders who don’t share in their way of life and likely the values their shared religion teaches them. Next up you’ll find a page outlining the different cabins that are available for rent, including the Gressis Cabin. If you have already signed up for an account on the site, you’ll actually be able to make a booking — albeit the cabin is currently unavailable due to a recent ‘animal attack’. Each cabin even has it’s own page — read the reviews for the Gressis House, entertain yourself.
Next up is the town archives, it’s very bare for the moment but take a look at the article about Maya and Ryan’s attack which strongly seems to indicate that the police department is corrupted if they are really spinning the story that they were attacked by wild animals despite the obvious knife wounds and being tied up to chairs. It’s a good indicator of what we can expect in Chapter 2 and seeing Maya’s suffering the aftermath of the attack. You’ll need to be logged in and use the code “welcometovenus!” if you wish to view these archives.
The final section of the site is somewhat hidden and you’ll need to look at the comments of a particular news article which will tell you that there is a hidden section on the site for police archives. This section is only meant to be for Venus residents, but the internet sleuth who leaves the comment casually drops the code to get through. And boy does it seem to reveal a lot of tragedies that have happened in the town. There’s archives on Maya and Ryan too but they are “pending approval” by the police. Have a look, I imagine a lot of this will be popping up in Chapters 2 and 3.
And that’s the Venus, Oregon site. A great plot device on Lionsgate’s part to really immerse the fans into the universe of The Strangers. Keep an eye out, the trailer for Chapter 2 will be out later today.
