"The Strangers Trilogy" - Filming for remake is 30 days in

Renny Harlin, director of the new remake trilogy of The Strangers has announced himself that filming is 30 days in. The remake, starring Madelaine Petsch as Maya and Froy Gutierrez as Ryan, is currently filming in Bratislava, Slovakia. The cast and crew have been sharing moderate updates to their social media accounts, giving fans an insight into how production is going.

The remake, which has yet to be given a release date, is set to follow Madelaine Petsch and Froy Gutierrez, playing a couple named Maya and Ryan, as they drive cross-country to begin a new life in the Pacific Northwest. When their car breaks down in Venus, Oregon, they’re forced to spend the night in a secluded Airbnb, where they are terrorized from dusk till dawn by the three masked strangers.

Production began at the beginning of September, with Petsch and Gutierrez confirming their involvement with the project, and Lionsgate being announced as the distributor for the film, and revealing that production would take place in Slovakia. Hints of a new film came way back in February of this year, but no official news came until August.

Primary updates for the films have been coming from the Instagram accounts of Petsch and Harlin, along with Johanna Harlin, wife of Renny, who is also a producer on the film. Froy Gutierrez also recently posted on his Instagram that he was headed back to Slovakia to continue working on the film after taking a short break from production, providing hints that he and Petsch may not be together for the entire film.

Petsch has continuously shared photos of herself covered in fake blood and bruises, whilst both Renny and Johanna Harlin shares behind the scenes shots of filming locations and rehearsing stunts. It’s interesting to note that whilst these updates appear to be coming from Slovakia, Instagram shows the accounts of Gutierrez, Petsch, and Harlin are all currently located in Harlin. This might not mean much, or it could mean they are secretly filming in the US and are using Slovakia as a dummy location to avoid the movie leaking online.

There has yet to be any shots revealed of the three Strangers, but I’d say they’re keeping it a secret intentionally, and that they will be revealed in due course.
