Similarities and Differences between ‘The Strangers 2’ and ‘The Strangers: Prey at Night’

Similarities

• Both films follow a family of four who seek refuge in a trailer park where they are visited by The Strangers.
• The family share the same names in both films: Cindy, Mike, Luke and Kinsey.
• The climax of both films are set off by Luke and Kinsey discovering dead bodies in the trailer park.
• Cindy is the first of the family to bite the dust and is killed by Dollface in the bathroom of the trailer.
• Mike is the second of the family to bite the dust and his death is caused by a car crash caused by The Strangers.
• Pin-Up Girl is the first Stranger to be killed off and is killed by Luke.
• Dollface is the second Stranger to die.
• The end of the movie involves a chase between Kinsey and The Man in the Mask as she escapes the trailer park in the back of a pickup truck.
• The fate of The Man in both movies is left unknown at the end.
• Kinsey survives the events of the night and escapes the trailer park to safety.

Differences

• The motivations for the family’s isolation in a trailer park is differed. In the Strangers 2, they are evicted from their home and sneak into the trailer park to seek refuge for the night however in Prey at Night it is their stopover on the way to Kinsey’s boarding school.
• In The Strangers 2, Luke is 17 and Kinsey is 10 whereas in The Strangers 2 both Luke and Kinsey are teenagers.
• Luke is the rebellious teenager in The Strangers 2 however in Prey at Night, Kinsey takes on this role.
• Pin-Up Girl has a lot more action in The Strangers 2, including contributing to the family’s deaths however in Prey at Night, she is only present for two scenes.
• Pin-Up Girl is killed by Luke as he steals The Man’s axe and kills her with it, resulting in her choking on her own blood.
• Dollface dies due to unknown reasons, possibly being shot by police who are then killed.
• In The Strangers 2, Luke is also killed by The Strangers however in Prey at Night he survives.
• The Man in the Mask is presumbed dead at the end of Prey at Night however he survives the events of The Strangers 2 after Kinsey escapes.
• Mike’s death is caused by Pin-Up Girl as she stabs him after he discovers Cindy’s dead body.
• Rather than the pool scene, in The Strangers 2 there is a large massacre scene where The Man in the Mask and Dollface kill a group of teenagers partying in an abandoned trailer.
• The opening of The Strangers 2 featured Kristen McKay as The Strangers catch up to her after the events of the first film, resulting in her death. However, Prey at Night begins with the relatives of Mike and Cindy being killed.
