Lionsgate resumes the teasing of The Strangers: Chapter 2 by inviting fans to explore the history of the crooked town of Venus, Oregon, unveiling secrets of the town’s dirty past.

Anyone who knows me knows I’m all for a good in-universe website to help promote a movie. And I guess Lionsgate feel the same way too by releasing VisitVenusOregon.com, a site that welcomes you to the town of Venus where “everyone is family”. The site is riddled with the history of Venus, amazing places to visit, and archives from the town. Use the right code word, and you’ll uncover a hidden video showing you just why Maya Lucas and Ryan Perez didn’t want to leave the Gressis House.

Now I absolutely love when a marketing team uses fun content like this to expand upon the lore established in movies. And boy do they reveal a lot about Venus. As if we already couldn’t tell, Venus sure is a crooked town if they’re going to claim that finding Maya and Ryan tied up and Ryan as good as dead points to an “animal attack”. Looks like Sheriff Rotter isn’t the nice Sheriff I was hoping he would be.

It also seems to show that The Strangers have been lurking around for a while and the town seems a little too unphased by their appearance on town security cameras or that people seem to go missing with them around. All signs just point to animal attacks, even if the commenters are saying otherwise.

The sites’ secret video also announces that the official trailer for Chapter 2 is coming tomorrow! And gives us a little glimpse at Maya’s backrooms-style hospital chase, and Pin-Up Girl wielding a crossbow in broad daylight out in the woods. From what I could see from those 15 seconds, Chapter 2 is kicking it up a gear. It looks amazing.
