Will a Strangers 3 happen?

Sadly, I think it’s safe to say that we’ll probably never see a Strangers 3. At least not for a while anyway. I mean, it took them 10 years to give us a sequel and despite most fans loving it, it wasn’t met with many positive reviews by ‘critics’. Not to mention the fact that Aviron Pictures has essentially ceased operations and they currently own the rights to The Strangers, so another company would have to have faith in the franchise and buy the rights to it.

I guess the good part about The Strangers is that because we don’t see their faces there is no reliance on bringing back the same actors to play them. So it’s viable that they could make another sequel in a few years with new actors playing The Strangers.

What could a third movie follow?

Obviously Prey at Night ended with two out of three Strangers being killed and the status of a third Stranger being left unconfirmed by an ominous ending. Not to mention multiple alternate endings that say he is alive. So Part 3 could follow The Man in the Mask finishing off Luke and Kinsey and recruiting two new women to take the place of Dollface and Pin-Up Girl to go after new victims. It could also take us back to the beginning and explore the Origins of The Strangers. How they came together and how they came to killing together. Although, that wouldn’t sit well with some fans who believe that exploring their origins would take away from the mystery of them.

Otherwise, seeing as we don’t know how much time passed between The Strangers and Prey at Night, a third movie could take place before Prey at Night and after the original.

A Strangers TV Series?

This is another idea I’ve seen thrown around, a TV series for The Strangers. I wouldn’t mind seeing this happen. Many horror franchises have successfully been made into TV Shows like Scream, Chucky, and The Purge. The series could follow the origins of The Strangers and even tie into the movies, reiterating their events to contribute to the story.

I actually took a crack at writing my own pilot for a potential TV Series a few years back and it’s very viable that the movies could work as a TV Series. Again, it depends on a studio seeing the potential of continuing the Strangers franchise.

So, will it happen?

Although it took 10 years for a sequel and then the sequel didn’t perform too well, I would never say never to a sequel, however it is very unlikely. If the right studio could see the great potential that The Strangers has, than we can get a sequel or some kind of follow up movie or TV Series, but until that happens we’ll have this site to live on in its legacy.
