The Strangers: Prey at Night >> Film Trivia

Facts and Trivia that you may not know about The Strangers: Prey at Night.
The original script featured Kristen McKay returning for the opening scene to be killed off, however multiple delays in the film meant this never happened.
The film was originally announced in 2009, but was delayed multiple times before this new version was announced.
There are multiple alternate endings to this film, one which is yet to be released which features The Man in the Mask attacking Luke and Kinsey at a hospital.
The Man in the Mask is the only killer to not have any dialogue.
Members of a horror podcast can be seen sitting in the background of the diner scene.
Johannes Roberts has admitted he isn’t a fan of slasher or home invasion movies.
The end scene where Kinsey is being chased by The Man in the Mask is a reference to the ending of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974).
Early in the film, Luke references how Kinsey could barely lift a baseball bat and then at the end she injures the Man with a baseball bat.
The scene where Dollface menacingly waves keys in front of Kinsey when she is in the police car is a reference to the original Scream film where Ghost Face does the same thing to Sidney.
When Luke is taking Mike to find their Aunt and Uncle’s bodies, you can see The Strangers truck parked in the background. This was due to a scene that was cut from the film.
Despite being a top billed cast member, Christina Hendrick’s does not last for more than half of the film.
Allegedly, the original actress of Pin-Up Girl was recasted due to feeling claustrophobic when she wore her mask during a knife fight scene. Her stunt double, Lea Enslin, took over the role however time constraints severely impacted Pin-Up Girl’s screentime.
Pin-Up Girl is one of the only killers that doesn’t kill anyone on-screen.
There is a cut scene from the film where Kinsey is hiding underneath a trailer and being discovered by The Man in the Mask. However, rather than attacking her, her plays along and urinates in front of her.
The scene where Kinsey sets the truck on fire and is chased by The Man is a reference to the film, Christine.
The scene where The Man steps out of the flaming truck and falls to the ground is a reference to Halloween II where Dr. Loomis blows up the hospital room and Michael Myers walks out and collapses in front of Laurie.
There was a lot of footage cut of Pin-Up Girl from the film which resulted in her having much less screen time.
Each Stranger had an agenda that, due to cut scenes, was never made clear. Dollface targeted Cindy and Kinsey, Pin-Up Girl targeted Luke, and The Man in the Mask saw the night as a free for all and would pick off whoever he could.
