A new look for The Man in the Mask?

An Instagram story shared by Executive Producer, Dorothy Canton, has seemingly given us a first look at The Man in the Mask in The Strangers 3, and it looks like he’s coming equipped with a new and upgraded outfit, a sneaky little tattoo and a new weapon that isn’t his infamous axe.

I’d missed this crucial Instagram story, but luckily another Strangers fan sent this in to our Instagram account with proof of the timestamp, and boy does it reveal a lot about one of our new-old Masked Strangers.

In the original film and Prey at Night, the Man in the Mask wore a brown corduroy suit, black boots and he slung around an axe stolen from James’ summer home toolshed. But it seems now The Man in the Mask has traded his 70’s outfit for a more modern, comfortable outfit to help rough it out in the woods of Oregon.

The photo, which shows the faceless actor standing on a platform for a sequence that is being shot on a blue screen, shows that the Man in the Mask is wearing a brown/cream-coloured winter jacket over a grey hoodie. And he’s paired that with black pants that appear to be either denim or chino material, and some black sneakers. As for his weapon of choice, it seems that the Man has ditched the axe he once wielded and is now carrying a wood-handle, curved machete. On the Man’s wrist, we can see a small smiley face tattoo, possibly lining up with the Smiley face used in Prey at Night.

Why they changed the look, I don’t know, but I’m guessing it has something to do with the idea that this new trilogy is set to reboot the franchise, so they’re creating their own looks that stays somewhat true to the original, whilst also making it their own. They did something similar in Prey at Night with Dollface and Pin-Up Girl’s outfits which were somewhat different but also similar to their looks in the original.

We are yet to get a glimpse at the mask, but let’s hope they don’t change that and stick with the iconic bag the Man wears in the first two films.

UPDATE AS OF NOVEMBER 20, 2022

Some new information was sent into me by a fan, it’s a photo from an Instagram account of a Stuntman who was filming in Bratislava at the time that the trilogy was in production. As you can see, it shows a man in similar attire to The Man in the Mask in the original films, wielding an axe. Could this possibly be the actual new look for The Man in the Mask? Or could he have multiple outfits throughout the trilogy? Only time will tell.
